A message from our conductor, Robert Halseth:

Our hearts go out to so many who have suffered so much as a result of this awful fire in Northern California, the most devastating in our state’s history.  Some have lost everything.  We, the fortunate ones, are left to deal with challenges of another sort, reduced air quality being chief among them.  In the midst of this, the Sierra Nevada Winds held our dress rehearsal in Yuba City Thursday night, in preparation for our annual fall concert Saturday night, November 17, 7:30 pm, at First United Methodist Church, 3101 Colusa Highway.

When we planned our season, we didn’t know that this one concert, with the theme “The Enduring American Spirit,” might give us the unique opportunity to bring rest to the weary and hope to the discouraged.  But then this tragic fire happened.

Because of the EPA’s guidelines – “stay inside and avoid physical activity” – residents of the Marysville-Yuba City community, and others in this area, may be inclined to stay at home.  As an alternative, we invite you to attend our concert.  While we can’t do much to improve the quality of the air you breathe, we hope to do a lot about making your life better by filling that air with inspiring, beautiful music by Bernstein, Grainger, Mennin, Milburn, Stamp and John Philip Sousa.  And one member of the audience will get a chance to conduct the band!

Tickets are available at the door:  $12 general admission and $9 students/seniors.  We would love to share our music with you!
