About the Winds
The Sierra Nevada Winds, composed of 45 musicians including brass, woodwind, percussion and string bass, is truly a community ensemble; the musicians are your civic leaders, teachers, scientists, health professionals and more. They travel from Sacramento, Roseville, Yuba City, Auburn, Gold River and Sutter Creek to name a few, to donate their time and talents to the group.
In December, the Sierra Nevada Winds was one of two bands in the nation to be awarded the Sudler Silver Scroll. This honor is awarded by the John Philip Sousa Foundation, and is considered North America’s most prestigious award for community concert bands.
The Sierra Nevada Winds Orchestra is registered as a non-profit corporation and is managed by a board of directors composed of the group’s musicians. It is funded through dues paid by the members, as well as by donations and concert revenue.
